In our testing, the A4 SOC chipset seemed to cope with whatever we threw at it with ease. From browsing websites to playing the most graphically intensive games, it performed as expected. The iPhoto app in particular was fast, allowing scrolling through high resolution pictures with ease, and photo/image rotation and zooming with no visible challenges.

The apps opened quickly and performed with no notable lag. Observing a system with this much processing power perform commendably one application at a time isn’t really something to boast about but still, it seems like the processor has power to spare. This is something positive as we can somehow predict where 3rd party apps developers are taking us – more graphics, interactivity and far greater functionality.

Power, you ask? The 25-watt-hour lithium-polymer built-in performed well in our testing. Thanks to advancements in low-power architecture, battery life of not only computers but consumer electronic devices in general is becoming seriously long. The iPad processor eats very little power, so in most situations, it is the display that will be the largest drain factor on the battery.

Just like other iPad reviews we’ve come across, for most personal users, the iPad stays alive for about 1 and a half days, and possibly 2 days if you refrain from tapping all the apps with shiny icons. The majority of devices continue to consume when they are in sleep mode. In the case of the iPad, it is about 1% to 2% per evening or about 8 hrs sleep mode. This is a pretty good figure.

Recharging batteries of the iPad is through its accompanying charger via its 30-pin port.
